Goat Rocks Wildnerness, August 2001

The trail follows the South Fork of the Tieton River. We took the fork to the right
which leads up to a high basin, instead of the Surprise Lake route to the south.
We camped for 3 nights below Gilbert Peak, and saw only one other party. The
weather was great, wildflowers were in bloom, and there were snowfields, creeks
and waterfalls aplenty. The first 3 miles of the hike are gentle, the next 3 gain
quite a bit more elevation, and the last 3 involve pain and regrets.
